The natural beauty of this six-acre property in the Litchfield County hills spoke to us, and we instantly knew we wanted to let the land lead the design. We developed a private sanctuary for our client and her family, honoring her early roots in rural Alabama. What began as a weekend place for a city dweller, once transformed, eventually became a permanent residence.
The project involved demolishing existing structures, including an old pool with a heavy pergola. We created a new pool concept with a free-standing spa, added a fire pit, patios, walkways, fencing and meadows, all with openness and connection in mind. Overgrown plantings that obstructed views were removed and reimagined, and existing large mature trees integrated into the plan to lend a sense of age and character. By carving out woodland paths, we unveiled scenic overlooks to take advantage of the incredible open sky views unfolding across the hills.
